South Side


Going around the bottom of the Island, the road goes into a dry climate much different then the area just 35 miles away. There were some very fun stops here, one was the Spouting Horn where a Lava tube allows the surf to go into the shore then shoot up with an incredible spray, as the water goes out it gives this weird moaning sound creating the legend of a trapped dragon...

We then drove to the end of the South side to what Mark Twain called the Grand Canyon of the
Pacific and that it is!

This is up in that 3,000 foot range but the rest of the island really is dry and not as much fun on this side. It does produce most of the coffee grounds for the U.S. so it's certainly important :)
 
There are some good beaches too...
 
That was about it for the South though...
